The event is aimed at women, nonbinary and trans people who ‘identify with the burdensome experiences and expectations of womanhood and femininity’. The play written by Mark St. Germain has been described by the theatre as ‘a cross between Twelve Angry Men and Grey’s Anatomy’. The ethical drama has also made the jump from theatre to film after being adapted for a 2021 movie of the same name. The cost of living crisis has not slowed retail spending, according to latest figures. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released the retail turnover estimates for April and total industry turnover is up more than a billion dollars to $33.566b compared to $32.498b at the same time last year. Expenditure has increased from April last year in all retail categories except the ‘household goods’ and ‘other’; this is despite the current cost of living crisis affecting the population’s disposable income levels. A recent report from Mission Australia revealed an increase in people seeking support services for homelessness. Wollongong Homeless Hub and Housing Services CEO Mandy Booker said there are policy changes that need to be made before this crisis will improve. “We need some changes within the Rental Tenancy Act so that we don’t have no-fault evictions and so that we can have a cap on increases in rent.,” Ms Brooker said. “The State and Federal governments need to come to the party and really prioritise housing as a right for everybody in our community and safe housing.” Wollongong Homeless Hub…

A new council project is finding out where women feel unsafe in Wollongong in an attempt to improve local public spaces. The Safer Cities: Her Way pilot is a collaboration between Transport NSW and Wollongong City Council. Wollongong is one of only 10 councils participating in the pilot program. The aim of the initiative is to improve the perception of safety of women in public spaces. This month, April, is the data collection stage, and locals are able to ‘drop pins’ on an interactive map to flag areas they feel unsafe.
