Led Zeppelin isn’t the first band to be put through the litigation ringer—but they are the latest. The US District Court of California ruled last Friday the band’s hit song Stairway to Heaven had “substantial similarities” to Spirit’s Taurus. It’s claimed the bands toured together in 1968 and 1969, but the remaining members of Led Zeppelin don’t recall it. Spirit’s late Randy Wolfe (also known as Randy California) wrote “Taurus” in 1967, while Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant and guitarist Jimmy Page released Stairway to Heaven in 1971. Reported support for the University of Wollongong’s smoke-free policy has been questioned and members of the Wollongong Undergraduate Student Association (WUSA) have called for it to be reviewed. The draft policy, which endorses a smoking ban on campus for everywhere except Uni Bar, received around 80 responses during its consultation period (December 15, 2015 – January 15, 2016). Seventy-eight per cent of responses, which were collected via SOLS message, supported the ban. A new study by researchers at the University of Oxford has concluded with a region-specific global health model which could potentially save millions of lives through diet change. The study is the first of its kind to look at the benefits of increasing the consumption of fruits and vegetables and decreasing the consumption of red meat and other animal by-products. AFL Hawthorn Hawks player Jarryd Roughead has been sidelined indefinitely after he told teammates yesterday that his melanoma is back. The 29-year-old first faced melanoma in mid July last year. Teammate Jordan Lewis said the situation was “extremely serious” and that Roughead was only weeks away from re-joining the season after a knee reconstruction.
