Hit television show “Roseanne” has been pulled off air after its star Roseanne Barr tweeted a racist and offensive message about a senior adviser to ex-President Barack Obama. Ms Barr described political adviser Valerie Jarrett as a cross between The Muslim Brotherhood and an ape. The tweet (shown below) was deleted, and Ms Barr issued an apology, but it came too late. Dr Terumi Narushima is not your average musician. The acclaimed composer and researcher works with microtonal sounds. Microtones are sounds between the normal notes played on instruments. With help from 3D printers, engineers and fellow researchers, Dr Narushima is wants to make sounds not usually heard. The project is part of the University of Wollongong’s Global Challenges program that brings together researchers from different fields.
A leading international advocate for young people will be in Wollongong on Friday to talk about sustainable development goals and creating Youth Leadership. Junior Chambers International (JCI) World President Marc Brian Lim wants young people to play a part in addressing unemployment and economic sustainability in the Illawarra. It is the first time a JCI president has visited Australia, and Wollongong is the first stop on his tour. Mr Lim will present the first of a four-part series into Sustainable Development Goals at the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus.
Wollongong City Council launched its new fleet of worksite caravan murals on Friday in hope it will reduce graffiti attacks across the Illawarra. The caravans, which operate as mobile offices for council workers, are prone to graffiti attacks because of their large and clean walls. Council hopes the murals, painted by community artists, will reduce the vandalism. “It’s a win-win. We get to showcase community art and deter graffiti on the council caravans.
