A review of the Australian Physical Activity Guideline for children over five-years-old is expected to be released later this year, following the recent release of the revised guidelines for children 0-4 years. The revised guidelines have adopted Canada’s approach to focus on physical activity, sedentary behaviour and sleep as a whole. The 24-hour approach emphasises the integration of all behaviour, including sleep, as opposed to the previous focus which on physical activity and sedentary behaviours individually. A new era has dawned for women’s AFL in the Illawarra and South Coast. The Tom Smith Lightning Cup gala day was held across the region on the weekend – the first time women’s AFL has been played in the region. The pre-season cup had six teams play four games each, and brought together teams from Ulladulla to the northern districts. Corrimal businesses came together to support a well known local charity at the annual Spring into Corrimal festival on Sunday. Money and awareness was raised for Saving Chloe Saxby by donations and the sales of merchandise and raffle tickets. Over $7000 went to the foundation, with significant contributions from Hevan Cafe and One Agency. The charity aims to raise funds for research on Vanishing White Matter disease. Thirteen-year-old Ruby-lee Paterson competed in an athletics tour in Canada in June this year, guided through the preparation process by her coach Ian Hatfield. Sally Fitzgibbons and Ryan Gregson are among the success stories rising from Hatfield’s passion and commitment to athletics. Paterson’s Canadian trip netted personal best results in each of her events (triple jump, 300m, 800m and 1200m).
