Thirteen-year-old Ruby-lee Paterson competed in an athletics tour in Canada in June this year, guided through the preparation process by her coach Ian Hatfield. Sally Fitzgibbons and Ryan Gregson are among the success stories rising from Hatfield’s passion and commitment to athletics. Paterson’s Canadian trip netted personal best results in each of her events (triple jump, 300m, 800m and 1200m). In 2009, Hatfield was named Athletics Australia’s Junior Coach of the Year and Athletics NSW Coach of the Year.
