The defunct wave power generator floating off Port Kembla’s industrial coastline is set to be removed later this year. After years of scrapped contracts and broken promises, the structure’s removal can’t come quick enough for some local surfers. Many claim the Oceanlinx wreck, which broke its moorings in 2010 and has been all but abandoned since, has caused environmental damage, and has affected surfing in the area. Two sharks were spotted feeding on a bait ball off Kendalls Beach in Kiama this morning. The same beach was closed yesterday because a 2.5m grey nurse shark was spotted off shore. The sightings come after 22-year-old surfer Brett Connellan was attacked by a great white off Bombo Beach last week. Despite the recent surge in shark activity, and calls from Surf Lifesaving NSW to avoid the water, Kiama board riders are keen to return to surf. UOW students are planning to protest the UniBar decision to have all Tom Jones music removed from the jukebox because bar managers said his songs were played ‘too much.’ The protest planned for Friday outside of the UniBar, will be a show of solidarity with Jones, and to reclaim what organisers are calling, “their democratic right to listen to Tom Jones as loud as possible, and as much as possible.” “This is our jukebox. New research from Roy Morgan indicates BuzzFeed’s Australian audience is “interested, intelligent young-people looking for news with a different attitude.” According to the report, BuzzFeed had almost two million visitors in 2015, with 63 per cent visiting on average once a week. Approximately one in five of these visitors were teenagers, and only one in 20 were aged 65 and over.
