A series of walks are taking place across the Illawarra and Southern Highlands region to get the blodd pumping for Heart Week.

Each year, the Heart Foundation community unites to celebrate Heart Week, to raise awareness and start a conversation about the importance of cardiovascular health nationwide.

This year, the campaign is focused on physical activity.

“It’s a way of bringing people together who might be keen to try out walking and also our existing heart foundation walking groups,” the Heart Foundation’s Andy Mark said.

“We also know that physical activity is beneficial to our heart health and by doing 30 minutes a day most days of the week we can halve our chances of heart disease.”

Five thousand Australians dying every year due to a lack of exercise. The Heart Foundation says ‘steps’ need to be taken to improve the nation’s cardiovascular health.

The final walk will take place in Bomaderry on Friday, May 4.
