The Wollongong Art Gallery have put together an exhibition called ‘The Gathering‘ showcasing the works of Indigenous Australian from the Illawarra and across Australia.

The exhibition was collaboratively put together by Louise Brand the Exhibitions Officer at the Art Gallery with the text panels written by Garry Jones a lecturer in Indigenous Studies at the University of Wollongong.

The exhibition was created as part of the galleries 40th anniversary celebrations, as they recognise the importance of expressing native art in the Illawarra area.

The exhibition consists of 68 individual artworks by 43 artists relating to a variety of Indigenous cultures including colonisation, self representation and the relationship between Indigenous people and the fauna and flora.

The Indigenous art exhibition will be on display until the 9th of May in the Wollongong Art Gallery.
