A group of UOW students is taking weeding the garden to a new level. The team members are getting their hands dirty and helping local volunteers regenerate a section of Collins Creek, Woonona. The creek’s bank is overrun with weeds that are smothering native shrubs and trees. Local volunteers are hoping to restore the creek’s native plant species, so the area can thrive.
The students are part of UOW’s Intrepid Landcare Club. Formed in May this year, the club aims to connect university students who share a passion for the environment. Students can be involved in land restoration projects, such as removing weeds and planting trees, and activities that promote environmental sustainability education.
The club has several upcoming events, including a cultural day at Sandon Point, Bulli and a campout at the Old Corrimal Colliery. All events are promoted on the club’s Facebook page. To sign up to UOW Intrepid Landcare or for more information head to the their CSE (Clubs and Societies) website.
