Thinking of joining a gym or a sporting team, but haven’t done the research to find your most affordable options? Here’s what is on offer for you in the local Wollongong area.

If you are on campus full-time or are living close to the university, you can pick up a URAC’s Silver Membership Pass for $299 on a six-month plan, which works out at roughly $49 a month. They also have a payment plan of $56 a month direct debit, if you can’t afford the upfront costs. This gets you unlimited access to your choice of URAC Health Club and URAC member rates on personal training, lifestyle programs and facility hire.

Club Lime is located on Kiera St, Wollongong, and offers all members six-weekly fitness program updates and regular group fitness classes. For $19.50 a month on a Silver Membership, you have 24-hour access to the gym, including free parking and locker use. If you are looking for an even cheaper alternative, and are available during the off-peak times (10am-3pm Monday to Friday, all day Saturday and Sunday), you can access the gym for around $9.75 a week on their Club Lime Lite option.

A group fitness class at Plus Fitness

Plus Fitness has two clubs open in Wollongong, one on Kiera Street and another in Corrimal. For just $13 a week, you get 24/7 access to their facilities, with no lock in contracts. Register for a free weekly pass with Plus Fitness here and see what they are all about.

Another club offering 24 hour access in the local area, at just $35 a month, is Anytime Fitness whose clubs you can access worldwide. With gyms open in Corrimal, Fairy Meadow, Figtree and Wollongong, there is always an Anytime Fitness just around the corner. Anytime also offers a 7 day free trial to new members, which you can sign up for on their website.

Soccer games run weekly with Play Free Sports

If you’re still not convinced you want to invest what little savings you have as a poor uni student on a gym membership, you aren’t completely out of options. Play Free Sport, a program started by UOW Student LifeURAC and UOW Wellbeing, runs an array of different individual and team sports for uni students on a weekly basis. They offer everything from Futsal, to Basketball, Table Tennis, Soccer, and even Yoga.
