The 57-year-old dam has been the cause of numerous emergency alerts during heavy rains, showing that the dam walls are not high enough to handle south coast weather. Council talks have commenced to determine the fate of the dam in Kiama.

On numerous occasions a handful of downstream residents have had to be evacuated, such as in March 2011. The Current is in Kiama getting to the bottom of what the plans are for the dam and what local residents want to see happen.

    Stay tuned for more.
