The Bald Hill Reserve at Stanwell Park is set for a facelift, but whether it major or minor will be in the hands of the community and visitors to the site. Over 3000 people attend the historic Reserve on weekends, with tourists and locals drawn to its iconic scenery. The exhibition SEXSELLS: Observations of an Eroticised Consumer Culture, held last week by a group of young Wollongong artists, brought to life the issues surrounding publicity and the art scene in Wollongong. The exhibition was part of an effort to get the community more involved in local art and cultural events. Although divided on what to do with Jerrara Dam, Kiama councillors are unanimously considering a report outlining a proposal to have it decommissioned. Director of Engineering and Works Bryan Whittaker said councillors recognised the need to seriously consider the decommissioning of the dam given the information and potential environmental impacts provided in the report. “There were some divided opinions about the proposal to reclassify and sell part of the residue site however [the councillors] resolved to investigate this,” Mr Whittaker said.
