A new exhibition at the University of Wollongong library is digging up the past of one of the region’s iconic industries.
The ‘Coal in the Illawarra’ exhibition honours the history of mining and its contribution to the region.
Coal mining was one of the earliest industries within the area and has greatly impacted the economy, and the establishment of communities along the Illawarra coastline.
UOW has been recognised for its efforts in researching coal and producing high quality mining engineer graduates to work locally and overseas.
