The Australian Defence Force (ADF) has hosted a women’s information event designed to to educate women about the roles available to them within the ADF. Women make up 15.4 per cent of the total permanent workforce within the ADF. The session dismissed suggestions the ADF is only for men, and encouraged women to enlist. Sony’s current video game console, the PlayStation 4, is nearing the end of its life cycle. Kodera stated that this will soon have a negative impact on the unit’s sales. Businesses and mental health advocacy groups are supporting a new KPMG plan that details how investing in mental health support could financially benefit businesses and improve the mental health of their employees. The plan states a $4.4 billion government investment in these measures, such as workplace reforms and suicide prevention, could provide an annual short-term saving of $8.2 billion and a long-term saving of $12.7 billion. Alongside the financial benefits for businesses, this investment would also improve the mental wellbeing of employees, which can result in higher productivity and less sick days. University students and unions have voiced concerns over the government’s slow implementation of the SmartRail program, and the possible privatisation of the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra train line. The SmartRail program, released by Infrastructure NSW in their State Infrastructure strategy, aims to implement its first three stages over the next 10 years. The first stage would involve capacity upgrades to the T4 Eastern Suburbs and Illawarra line, the second would also introduce a new fleet of intercity trains. Former refugees have told their stories to anyone who was prepared to listen at an event in Wollongong. Woonona High School was transformed into a mock refugee camp earlier this month, and former refugees shared their stories and shed light on the refugee experience. The Illawarra Refugee Challenge Community Night saw people to sit down with a former refugee and listen to the events that led to these people fleeing their country of origin.
