The AFL and AFL Players Association have agreed on a one-year collective bargaining agreement for AFLW players that will bring the season forward and almost double previous salaries. Under the new pay deal, the average player’s salary will increase by 94 per cent across the competition. AFLW players are paid differently depending on where they fall in a four-tier category. New data has shown an overall increase in wage rates across Australia but wages are failing to keep up with the rapid increase in the cost of living. The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) released new data on the Wage Price Index (WPI) in Australia today. The quarterly cost of living for employees in Australia increased by 1.7%, while the wage rate only rose 0.7%.
