The doors of one of the University of Wollongong’s most in demand services will be open longer to students and staff. The UOW library 24/7 trial will run from June 5-22. https://youtu.be/MOz9nln9iJw The university says the opening hours adjustment will better accommodate student lives. The move follows student requests for the 24/7 service to be reinstated after it was cancelled during the COVID-19 lockdown period. Australia is currently experiencing a national job shortage, with many recent graduates struggling to find employment after completing their degrees. Wollongong’s Red Cross Lifeblood is celebrating 60 years since their first blood bank was established in 1963. The Illawarra-based organisation began with 1000 donors, saving 3000 lives each year. Fast forward six decades, the blood bank now receives almost double its donations, with 5200 donors, helping to save around 50,000 lives annually. As donation numbers continue to rise within the region, the demand for blood has also skyrocketed. Nationally acclaimed poet Associate Professor Alan Wearne has returned to his academic home at the University of Wollongong to host a workshop for students and to speak about his book.
