Wollongong’s stand-up comedy scene is winning fans and attracting more artists, according to the man behind a regular local gig.

Fairy Meadow open mic night Fez Mez  celebrated its second birthday last month, and a full house provided encouragement for its creator, comedian and Raw comedy state finalist Jamal Abdul.

“The comedy scene has definitely grown, and the audience has definitely grown as well,” Mr Abdul said.

The event held at Fairy Meadow cafe and bar, ‘2 Doors Up’ was created in 2016 by local comedian and Raw comedy state finalist Jamal Abdul who says its continued success is a product of a thriving comedy scene in the Illawarra.

Mr Abdul got into comedy about six months before approaching Fairy Meadow cafe and bar ‘2 Doors Up’ in 2016 to suggest an open mic night for Wollongong comedians.

Fez Mez’s birthday celebration was hosted by Jamal and include local acts Stu Macpherson, who runs Wollongong Comedy, Sally Lopez, Connor Van Vurren and Adam Armitt.
