UOW Motorsport’s 2022 electric vehicle ‘Annie’

After 12 long months, UOW Motorsport is gearing up to unveil its new electric vehicle (EV) at the iAccelerate Centre on the University of Wollongong’s Innovation Campus tomorrow evening (Friday, 20 October 2023).

The EV will compete in this year’s Formula SAE, an international event hosted by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

The Australasia leg of the competition will meet in Victoria in December, with university students from across the globe coming together to participate.

The project is managed and run entirely by university students, giving them the opportunity to develop their skills in design, management, manufacturing, communication, research, and business operations in a real-world environment.

UOW Motorsport business director Connor Harvey, a third-year electrical engineering student, said the car reflects the team’s hard work and dedication.

“It’s definitely a proud moment for everyone,” Connor said.

“I know a lot of sleepless nights, and blood, sweat and tears go into building these cars… so, this event on Friday is a really good opportunity for that hard work to be acknowledged.”

UOW Motorsport was founded in 2001 and in its 22-year history, the team has had numerous first-place victories, both domestic and international, as well as placed in the top 15 teams for the electric vehicle class.
