The world of electronic sports or ‘e-sports’ is rapidly joining the mainstream as popular games like League of Legends draw more viewers. Combining tactics with intense knowledge of the game, many are now playing e-sports professionally, with sponsor dollars growing into the millions.

E-sports may have been considered inferior to traditional sports like football or rugby, but it seems the difference is now blurred as e-sport is recognised competitively.

For the second year in a row, University Games will include League of Legends as an official sport to be battled out by teams from universities across the country.

Video: UOW League of Legends Society secretary Oscar Jeffreson talks about the rise of e-sports.
