The UOW Careers service held its annual Jobs Fair, which connects students with local employers to find information on jobs in various fields.

A large turnout of domestic and international students gathered at the event which offered a booth for free professional headshots.

Business owner Jamie from Ranger Jamie Tours was one of the many stallholders who gave students an opportunity to explore jobs in the Illawarra.

“We’re really excited to be here today and meet all these lovely faces, it’s really a great opportunity for students to come out and find something new, or even pursue a career path they’re really passionate about,” Mr Jaime said.

With the cost-of-living crisis becoming more difficult for students, and the increasing unemployment rate, career events provide students with the tools and information they need to secure their place in the workforce.

UOW student Gretchen attended the event and said the complexities of navigating financial pressures and finding a job is a persistent issue for students.

“The job market down here is tough sometimes, so it’s good to have the university providing something that we’re able to come and check out what’s on offer,” Gretchen said.

UOW Careers offers a suite of career services year-round, including one-on-one career counselling, a local job board to connect employers with students and a plethora of online resources to prepare those looking to enter the workforce.
