It’s Creative Writing Industry Week in the Faculty of Creative Arts, with today the launch of Song in the Dark, the first novel by UOW academic and Creative Writing lecturer Dr. Christine Howe.

Industry Week is two days of intensive events in the Faculty of Creative Arts that introduces students to the tough reality of a writing life, while also showing them the possibilities in creative writing and getting published. As part of the events, students will also hear staff – working across various genres – reading from their work.

At the book launch today we spoke with Dr. Howe and Dr. Merlinda Bobis and asked them what the future looked like for creative writing in the Creative Arts faculty; how valid the novel and similar mediums are for today’s audience; and, whether there is a long future ahead for creative writing.
