1 – SAFE SCHOOLS SCHEME
Government backbenchers are calling the review of the Safe Schools Coalition Scheme a “joke.”
Coalition MP’s received a briefing from University of Western Sydney’s Emeritus Professor Bill Louden last night, where he concluded that Safe Schools met all the necessary guidelines of the current curriculum.
LOUDEN: The Labor Party’s entire strategy for opposing this reform, that they have conveniently forgotten you agreed with until five minutes ago, has been premised on losing the next election.
He was described as a “stitch” and a “whitewash” by national MP’s and outspoken critics of the program such as Eric Abetz, George Christensen and Cory Bernardi.
2 – PRIDE IN SPORT INITIATIVE
A number of Australian sporting codes have shown support for the LGBTIQ community today by signing up for the new Pride in Sport index. The new initiative ranks sports organisations on their support of LBTIQ members, both on their teams and in the community.
Six organisations have signed up so far including the NRL and AFL, as well as Cricket Australia.
The index hopes to raise awareness of LGBTIQ members in the sporting community, and increase participation in sports regardless of gender or sexuality.
3 – GREECE CLOSES BORDERS
In International News, hundreds of migrants have been turned back attempting to enter Greece from Macedonia.
The Prime Minister of Greece, Alexis Tsipras, has said there is no chance the border will be reopened.
EU Commissioner for Migration Dimitris Avramopoulos responded to the prime minister’s decision.

4 – FEVER CLUBBER PLEADS GUILTY
A Horsley man has pleaded guilty to being involved in a violent nightclub brawl that spilled onto the streets of Wollongong last year.
The violent confrontation between four men in Wollongong’s fever nightclub moved across three locations bringing traffic to a halt and was only stopped once police arrived on scene.
CCTV footage of the incident shows the men throwing punches inside of the nightclub before they’re removed by security, and the fight continued on the street in the path of oncoming traffic.
It is understood the other men involved have been charged.
SPORT
Wallabies star David Po-cock has announced he will take an extended break from Rugby Union to “further his studies and personal development.”
The Brumbies player will return to his club, and international rugby, for the 2018 Super Rugby season.
