NSW entrepreneurs are preparing for Small Business Month a little differently this year with the NSW Government holding eight expos across the state.
October marks the annual celebration of small businesses, offering new companies an opportunity to “network, develop skills and gain knowledge” in registered partnership with the government.
Self-made entrepreneur, full-time university student and owner of Jaz’s Beauty Salon, Jazmine Estay appreciates the government’s efforts to shine light on growing companies and described her work as a “full-on” yet therapeutic experience away from her studies.
“It’s difficult juggling the salon with full time work and university,” Ms Estay said.
“The biggest challenge has been time management given all of the different things that are happening in my life.”
Jazmine studies education, specialising in mathematics at a secondary level, and has received multiple certifications in beauty over the last four years.
With entrepreneurs now making up 19 per cent of the Australian workforce, the move to self-directed employment has increased amongst younger generations.
“Being your own boss means that you have to take into account that you have full responsibility,” Ms Estay said.
Ahead of small business month, the NSW Government has founded several extensive online resources to encourage transparency between company’s and their clientele.
For many expanding companies, social media is a key element of community engagement.
Ms Estay uses social media platforms like Instagram to showcase her work and link customers to her online booking system.
Full-time student Alysia Estay believed she meets the requirements to pursue a role in Jaz’s Beauty Salon as a full-time social media manager, as she studies Communication and Media.
“Mostly though the business revolves around word-of-mouth,” Miss Estay said.
For many small businesses, rapport and reliability is equally important as publicity.
Registration for the month’s activities is available online at NSW Small Business Month Expos.
Ahead of small business month, entrepreneurs and small business owners are bracing to better equip themselves for the cost-of-living crisis.
Upcoming entrepreneur Jazmine Estay is looking to take her business to the next level and has given some insight into the operation of her company she set up four years ago.
This year, Small Business Month is offering eight expos for expanding companies around the state.
