New champion management in Macarthur Baseball

Baseball in the Macarthur region is set to return following a fresh face in management at the home of the reigning premiers.

The Macarthur Baseball League will begin in September with the Camden Red Sox hoping to continue the successes experienced last season.

Now president of the club and former Camden Red Sox Coach Rick Burrows said that taking up the position was all about assisting he development of grassroots baseball.

“I really wanted to get those kids in the right direction, so I was more about with getting that junior development happening,” Mr Burrows said.

“Pretty much saturate the kids with enough resources for them to stay in baseball.”

In what will be his fourth season with the Camden Red Sox, Mr Burrows has spent the previous three in a coaching position.

He said that winning last season’s Minor League championship has invoked a positive attitude in the teams competing this year.

“That’s good for their mindset, for sure, that they’ve won a comp,” Mr Burrows said.

“But you know, games as well, if you do lose some, that’s good learning too.

“It could be promising for them to just learn a bit more.”

Camden Red Sox Vice President Darryl Jones said that the sport is enticing a fresh player base with more kids registering every year.

“We have a sort of good culture around the club,” Mr Jones said.

“We have hundreds of kids come through and we’ve got a lot of people involved in the sport for a long time that can foster that good culture.”

Mr Jones has been involved with the Camden Red Sox since they started in 2013 as a coaching coordinator before taking up the role of vice president in 2022.

Mr Jones said his plans are to expand the sport to communities and spread the love of baseball.

“We’re just about growing the sport basically, because baseball is a minority sport in the country,” Mr Jones said.

“So we’re just about trying to get as many kids through here as possible and basically give them a good foundation to teach them how to play the game the right way, but most of all, it’s just about numbers.

“We just want to get as many kids playing as we can.”
