The UOW Alumni Bookshop may have moved but it continues to offer a valuable student service.

The second-hand bookshop was forced to move earlier this year from its extensive site on Northfields Ave to make way for a new student accommodation block. It now occupies a smaller room in Building 15, along with an annex in Campus East. Books are also sold at Market Alley, to better reach students.

Chairperson of the Alumni Campus Charter Christine Thompson said while the bookshop had a number of regular customers, many students do not know it exists.

“We talk to a lot of people in their final year who say they’ve never heard about us,” she said.

“So we’ve really got to keep up that awareness.”

Staffed entirely by volunteers, the bookshop sells second-hand books to students at an affordable price. Textbooks, fiction and non-fiction are all on offer. All proceeds fund a number of scholarships to assist students in financial need.
