The 2024 WEMBO World Solo 24 Hour Mountain Bike event will give bike riders around Australia the opportunity to reach professional status.
Mountain bike rider Micah Braddock said success at the championship, to be held in Canberra this weekend, could potentially lead to sponsor opportunities and draw the attention of biking teams.
“If you compete at a large event like this, riders like me and others have the chance to draw exposure and lets us show off our skills at an international level,” Mr Braddock said.
“If you do well or even win the championship you could have the opportunity to be seen by mountain biking teams who can make you pro.”
Besides the pricing of entry, Mr Braddock said that any skill level is eligible to qualify, providing everyone with the chance to showcase their form on one of the biggest stages of mountain biking in the country.
“Even though the competition attracts top bikers and bikers from around the world, there’s sometimes opportunities for amateur riders or anyone really to participate and maybe qualify through other regional competitions or even wildcard entries,” Mr Braddock said.
“To be honest the championship is there to promote the sport of mountain biking and celebrate it really, give everyone a chance to show their worth as a mountain bike rider.”
Mr Braddock also states that there has been a growing popularity of mountain biking, not only in Canberra but also in the Wollongong area.
“I think it’s so great to see mountain biking events and tournaments becoming more of a common thing in Wollongong,” Mr Braddock said.
“It’s great to see that everyone is liking the sport more and more.”
Mr Braddock said that the popularity of the sport will continue to rise.
“I think mountain biking will keep getting more popular, I see new people all the time trying and attempting the sport and they grow to love it,” Mr Braddock said.
The 2024 WEMBO World Solo 24-Hour Mountain Bike’ will launch this weekend from September 27 to 29.
