Campus East residents are being trained in mould prevention, following a wet couple of months that drenched the Wollongong area.
End of semester room inspections at Campus East, were followed by numerous reports of mould found in bathrooms, cupboards and roofs.
Campus East resident Millie Ravenscroft said that the cleaning staff have been bleaching units to help eradicate the mould.
“There was a point where mould was in the roof and the cleaners came in and bleached the roof,” Ms Ravenscroft said.
“I didn’t even realise there was mould in the roof, so I’m glad they pointed it out and took action.”
In May, residents received an email asking them to consider taking some steps to prevent the mould.
Despite the actions taken by Campus East staff, resident Mia Saxon said it’s still a constant issue.
“It’s hard to combat and I care very much because it’s a health concern,” Ms Saxon said.
Research has proven that mould can cause respiratory issues, allergic reactions and general irritation.
Whilst the staff are doing what they can to preserve the health of its’ residents, individuals are still being urged to consider other measures, such as leaving windows open or picking up a moisture absorber from the reception.
