A man racing a noisy, unregistered motorbike around the streets of East Corrimal has residents concerned for their safety.

The man has been driving at high speeds through the area at all hours of the night keeping residents awake for months.

East Corrimal resident of 18 years, John Giordano said his main concern was that the motorbike rider might cause an accident.

“It worries me that he might clean someone up,” he said.

“Because he goes on the cycleway as well and I have seen him at night with no lights and he is just absolutely tearing through.”

Resident of 20 years, Isaac Mayfield said he was also concerned for people’s safety.

“I feel like there is a general sense of danger when there is people riding the motorbikes around,” he said.

“People could definitely get hurt by it and at the end of the day its highly unsafe.”

Mr Mayfield said Wollongong City Council and the NSW police could be doing more to stop the bike rider.

“I kind of understand it is hard for them,” he said.

“But I feel like they could do a bit more and have maybe more numbers out there on the road.”

However, Mr Giordano said that he thinks it is too difficult and dangerous to attempt to apprehend the rider.

‘It’s not as if you can set up a sting to get him,” he said.

‘Because the guy would run and he obviously has no problems going down cycleways.”

Nonetheless, residents are collectively getting frustrated, with one resident sending out a letter to neighbours asking them to contact police every time they are disrupted by the noise of the motorbike rider.
