Wollongong local, Terry “Richo” Richardson is one of the nine surfers invited to compete in this year’s World Masters Surfing Championship.

Winning his first World Masters in Fiji in 1997, Richo is now 63-years-old and is ready to go back for the fifth time.

The event will be held in The Azores Islands (off Portugal) in September, and the winner will walk away with more than $20,000 prize money.

Richardson said he was not worried about the former and much younger world champion surfers in the competition.

Terry Richards winning the championships in Brazil, 1982.

“As far as I’m concerned, I’m still a world champion and I’m going to go there and show them why,” Richardson said.
