Local Queensland strawberry farm is leading the way in eco-friendly agriculture

Oasis Berries, a strawberry farm located in Caboolture, Queensland, is taking a step further into eco-friendly agriculture, giving locals and tourists the opportunity to pick their own berries.

Their annual Oasis Strawberry Festival is held annually in September and October and encourages families to participate in eco-friendly agriculture.

The festival provides the opportunity to pick a fresh box of strawberries, as well as various other activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Janita Stephenson got to experience first-hand what Oasis Berries has to offer for tourists, and engage in the close knit community, interacting with Caboolture’s locals.

“It was a wonderful experience, coming together with so many of the locals to create a fun environment and also learning more about agriculture, as well as discovering how strawberry picking can be a more eco-friendly way for our farming industry,” Ms Stephenson said.

The family-owned business has been running for twenty years and expanded to multiple locations in Queensland, distributing their best quality strawberries throughout Australian supermarkets.

In addition to allowing customers to pick their own strawberries, Oasis Berries also helps supply packaging to other growers, as well as assisting with designing, supplying, and installing automation machines and robotics for sorting and packaging produce.

The owner of Oasis Berries, George Him, has always valued hard work when it comes to agriculture. As a child his mum worked on a strawberry farm in Melbourne and his goal was to eventually open his own farm.

“I’ve always farmed, I love the problem solving aspect of it and I’m not afraid of hard work. My aim is to create a sustainable way in which we are farming our produce and I believe that Oasis Berries does exactly that,” Mr Him said.

Oasis Berries’ mission of creating a sustainable and eco-friendly way of producing its fresh fruit is encouraging many other Queensland berry producers to follow in their footsteps.
