    Creatives seeking alternate ways to kickstart their careers

    Artists claim they are becoming more creative in the way they follow their passion and being their careers. In places where university student populations are increasing, such as Wollongong and Sydney, they say it is difficult for freelance creatives to gain exposure and contacts among the crowd of university graduates. Instagram, a social media platform designed for photo sharing, is a global tool many trained and self-taught creatives use to publish and promote their work. For two local creatives, Hayden Buchanan and Beccy Chan, breaking away from tertiary education meant establishing their craft through online communities, such as Instagram, and enabled them to build portfolios and begin their careers without a university degree.
