The nail-biting psychological thriller ‘Gaslight’ is on at the Wollongong Workshop Theatre (WWT), which will run until August 24.

WWT is the longest running amateur theatre group in the Illawarra, having produced high-quality performances for over 70 years.

WWT director Michael Cremona has been eager to showcase his creative freedom in the reproduction of the 19th-century English thriller, written by Patrick Hamilton.

“This is the first project I’ve directed,” Mr Cremona said.

“Last year, the theatre called and asked me to be involved with a couple of shows.

“I was keen to work on a creative project and it’s a story that I thought was universally appealing.”

Mr Cremona said he was nervous for opening night last Friday, but said he was confident that his cast were ready for the stage.

“I can see how it looks; the cast is doing a really good job preparing,” Mr Cremona said.

The cast and crew consists entirely of Wollongong residents and has been in the works for more than a year.

Mr Cremona said he hoped that his first time role as a director would hopefully lead to further career opportunities.

WWT will release several other productions over the next few months, including McColm’s ‘The Dumb Waiter’ and Gwon’s ‘Ordinary Days’.
