The award winning Illawarra Flame House was one of 190 energy-efficient homes across the country to open its doors to the public last month.

The 16th annual Sustainable House Day event, held by the not-for-profit Alternative Technology Association, attracts more than 20,000 visitors interested in living sustainable living.

The day offers visitors a unique opportunity to talk with the owners, architects, engineers and builders about their experiences in sustainable design.

Industry professionals on site at the Illawarra Flame spoke with reporter Frances Johns about the advanced building energy technology incorporated into the design of the net-zero energy home.
