Wollongong ceramic artists prefer authentic markets over online selling platforms.
Thirroul ceramicist, Robyn Ramsay said the face to face experience provides a more personal look into the art for consumers.
“One of the differences with ceramics is that the tactile is a very strong part of it – how it feels in your hand.” she said.
Ms Ramsay uses a traditional format with mud to create vases and other homewares, showcasing how the century old technique still applies to modern ceramic arts.
The Wollongong Makers Market is one of few upcoming events which allow artists such as Ms Ramsay to build a connection to the public and get a feel for ceramic culture in the area.
“There are a huge variety of people making there, so there is always something that suits someone’s taste.” Ms Ramsay said.
As art markets prevail, physical sales remain the most engaging and reliable method for consumers and crafters alike.
