Basketball is enjoying a renaissance in Australia, according to enthusiasts.

On the back of more Australians making their markĀ in the world’s premier basketball competition, the National Basketball Association (NBA), the game’s growth has sky-rocketed locally.

Two big name Australian players, the Golden State Warrior’s Andrew Bogut and Matthew Dellavedova from the Cleveland Cavaliers, are headed to the NBA finals. The pair will contest the seven game series in the hope of replicating the success of fellow Australian Patrick Mills last season.

The University of Wollongong offers free sports on campus to promote healthy living and to ensure people can step away from the daily stresses of campus life. Basketball is one of the sports on offer and sessions attract about 15-20 people.
