Gaming and pop-culture exposition, GAMMA Expo was held at the University of Wollongong earlier this month.
Wollongong’s pop-culture enthusiasts visited GAMMA where they engaged with cosplayers, artists, authors and thematic activities on August 10.
GAMMA, which stands for Gaming, Anime, Manga, Movies and Art’, is an all-ages inclusive immersion into the world of pop culture.
Traditional and digital artist Ryan Grimm, 22, said the expo was an unmissable opportunity to gain exposure for the Illawarra’s local creators.
“If I passed this up, I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night,” Mr Grimm said.
“It’s local and I think it’s great.”
Attendees conversed with stallholders and observed live art exhibitions, including Mr Grimm at his ‘Midnight Concepts’ stall.
“People can see me working so it feels a bit more authentic,” Mr Grimm said.
Formulating a sense of community and relatability to creators at the expo provided visibility and a chance to build customer relations, encouraging attendees to support small Australian creators.
Indie author Mark Kramarzeskwi said the advantages of in-person marketing at events like GAMMA, in comparison to the post-COVID digital age.
“It gives me a chance to talk to people face to face,” Mr Kramarzeskwi said.
“Trying to market things online is just screaming into a void.”
The expo places an emphasis on providing an accessible and enjoyable event for all demographics, complete with interactive gameplay, audience participation segments and a wide variety of vendors to suit every interest.
“We all have one thing in common,” Mr Grimm said.
“In the best way, we’re all nerds.
“We’ve all got something here that floats our boat.”
Plans are already in the works for the 2025 Wollongong Gamma Expo following its impressive attendee reception this year.
