The Australian Olympic snowboard cross team have left the slopes behind to undertake an intense preseason training camp in Thirroul led by Illawarra Hawks trainer Alex Moore.

Olympic snowboarder Josie Baff said the team are utilising the beach scene to get some variety in their training schedule.

“Specifically, we are training on the beach which, walking on sand makes everything harder so doing exercises on the sand makes our lives very very challenging during that one to two hours in the morning,” Ms Baff said.

“Then we go to the gym and do our normal strength sessions in the afternoon. We are just getting that variety in our training and we’re here together as a team so it’s nice to have some time together before we get to go home and spend some time and train at home.

“It sets the tone for the rest of the year.”

The Australian snowboard cross team is set to compete in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics taking place in Italy from February 6 to 22, 2026.

“Training is going pretty good. We’re all feeling good and I guess trying to bring some new differences and iron out those small things we can fix,” Ms Baff said.

“Our confidence is growing and I can’t wait to see what myself and the team are capable of in the international season starting in December.
