The Thirroul Butchers have come from behind to outlast the Collegians 24-18 on saturday to secure their first Illawarra home MOJO league premiership since 2014, both players and fans were filled with emotion.

Despite being 6 points behind at half time, the butchers went on to score two tries thanks to Monty Raper and Jye Patterson. Aswell as great attack during the second half, Thirroul’s defense was crucial in defering any collegians offense.

“From fourth to first!” cried the BarTV commentators, showcasing the emotion felt by all spectators watching the game.

Along with the announcers, multitudes of Thirroul fans bowled down the hill to storm the field, flooding WIN stadium in a sea of blue and white. Among this crowd was Thirroul Head Coach, Jarrod Costello.

“Saturday’s Grand Final win was a huge day for the Butchers, breaking a nine year premiership drought” said Costello.

“The crowd on the hill was inspirational to the players in the second half, holding Collies scoreless and defending our try line very well”

“The win was a great reward for everyone’s efforts throughout the last few years when things didn’t go our way with Covid and getting knocked out of the finals last year”
