The production Hamilton has returned to the stage at the Sydney Lyric Theatre until January, with many fans having high expectations of the musical following the streaming of the Broadway production on Disney Plus.

Audience member Annabelle Carlson said it was the second time she had seen the musical production.

“I think that the audience perception of the show has also changed because of the popularity it gained being put onto Disney Plus,” she said.

“I think more of the audience know the songs, the characters, and what to expect, rather than going in blind, as maybe they did the last time that it toured in Sydney.

“I am also coming from a personal perception on that because I purposely made a choice when I watched it the first time not to watch the Disney Broadway version.”

Audience member Dean Calabrese said he could not  help but compare it to the Broadway version.

“I watched the Disney special before I watched the play, and you can’t help but not be biased, but it gives you a level of comparison,” Mr Calabrese said,

“I found myself at times trying to make comparisons, trying to understand where the performers are coming from,

“Are they trying to put on an accent? Are they trying to mimic what the Broadway is show on Disney Plus?”

Mr Calabrese explained as he had already experienced the meaning of the play, he was more focussed on the background dancers this time around.

“When going this time, I found myself watching other aspects of the show,” Mr Calabrese said,

“Like people standing on the upper terraces, or, you know, background dancers and other movements on stage.”

Hamilton will leave Sydney in January.
