Drifting no longer out of control

Maree HarbBy Maree HarbAugust 29, 2016No Comments1 Min Read

Engines are revving in Wollongong after a recent increase in the number of drifting enthusiasts.

With its origins in Japan, drifting combines speed, angle and showmanship to intentionally oversteer around corners.

The motor-sport gained traction after the establishment of Australia’s own Drifting Grand Prix in 2011.

Social media has shed light on the once stigmatised sport with groups like Downshift and Driving Sports promoting car lover’s to share their appreciation for the motor-sport in controlled environments.

Local enthusiasts will be among the thousands predicted to descend on the Fairfield Showground next week for the latest organised drifting event.
