De-registered surf life saving clubs call for more talks

Corrimal and Port Kembla surf life saving clubs were de-registered on Friday, just one week into the new volunteer season. Surf Life Saving NSW announced both clubs would be de-registered due to their opposition to mandatory Sunday beach patrols.

On Sunday, members from both clubs discussed how to continue community involvement and beach sustainability.

“We still intend on maintaining a presence at our club and we’re investigating all of those opportunities,” Corrimal SLSC President Tony Cartwright said.

“We’re keenly interested in seeing the dunes improve.”

“Surf Life Saving, please re-engage with us … we really want to resolve this matter.”

At Corrimal SLSC alone, more than 200 nippers are affected by de-registration.

“Surf Life Saving, please re-engage with us … we really want to resolve this matter,” Mr Cartwright said.
