Cybersecurity experts have expressed concern about the release of a coronavirus tracing application in Australia. The app is expected to be released to the public in coming weeks, but questions have been asked about where and how the data will be stored.

The Australian government said the the app would be designed to trace a person’s movement throughout the day, and would notify them if they had come in contact with a person who had tested positive for COVID-19.

University of Wollongong professor of engineering and information sciences Dr Katina Michael said the technology was potential being asked to fix a problem beyond the capacity of technology, but Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill said it was a difficult choice between protecting data security and protecting life.
