A rural Car Club in NSW is engaging a wider demographic of members in their club.

President of Cooma Monaro Historic Automobile Club (Cooma Car Club) Tony Nassar said they’ve been looking at ways to bring in more youth and encourage younger members to get involved.

“The first thing we did was remove the idea that you have to have a car to join the car club,” Mr Nassar said.

The shift has been successful in increasing memberships as well as allowing for more youth activities within the region, such as the Mount Gladstone Hill Climb and the Billy Cart Derby.

“It’s just constantly growing. We’ve cleared over 300 Members now as financial members, which puts us at over 400 people attending the club. And that was 80 when I joined,” Mr Nassar said.

In 2022, the Car Club opened a 50s style diner in the museum that operates the first Saturday of the month, allowing volunteers and young people the chance to develop hospitality skills in a fun and supportive environment.

This unique project provides another way for the club to connect with the community and offers opportunity for youth involvement.
