Plans to enable aged care and specialised seniors housing next to the developing Shellharbour Hospital have been welcomed by locals. NSW Government rezoning proposals have earmarked a site for the housing on Buckley’s Road, Shell Cove, to give seniors direct access to the local centre and nearby healthcare services. Shellharbour City Council is calling on its residents to provide feedback on controversial city plans introduced by the NSW government earlier this year as the proposal finally undergoes public exhibition. Per the latest NSW Government rezoning plans, 11,700 new dwellings are expected in the suburb’s surrounding commercial area, including new proposals for mandatory affordable housing. The current plan calls for mandatory affordable housing quotas of 10 per cent on selected government-owned land and 5 per cent on privately owned land. Improvements to the Illawarra’s public education system are in the works after the NSW Government released an official masterplan for Flinders Public High School. Set to be built next to Flinders Public School on Brunderee Road, the new high school will accommodate 750 students and open for Term 1, 2029. It is the first public high school to be built in Shellharbour in 55 years.
