The Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) welcomed prospective students over the weekend during their open day, showcasing their state-of-the-art facilities.
The open day included guided tours of the academy, information sessions, student-led food stalls, sporting matches, training demonstrations, and interactive displays.
Second-year Officer Cadet Sterling Thompson, 20, shared his highlights from the event, including a rugby game between Art and Science students.
“The section attack on the parade ground was also very good,” Mr Thompson said.
“It’s great for the visitors to understand what happens in the army and what your role could be if you join.
As for those who are already attending, it really reignites our drive to be here and look forward to our careers,” he said.
Visitors were able to immerse themselves in a range of activities around the campus. From witnessing cutting-edge technology like robotic dogs to testing their skills on Army flight simulators.
Mr Thompson emphasised the importance of the open day for potential candidates
“A lot of people don’t know the full extent of what ADFA has to offer,” he said.
“It’s very useful seeing the lifestyle of ADFA Cadets and the fun you can have here.
Since I’ve joined, I have a secured a clear career path and I’ve also made some lifelong mates.”
Aspiring candidates also had the opportunity to speak with current midshipmen and officer cadets about the potential avenues within the Navy, Army, or Air Force.
Fellow ADF officer, Sergeant Kylie Nicholas, highlighted the wide range of educational and occupational pathways ADFA offers, tailored to everyone’s personal interests.
“I’ve served 36 years in the Australian Defence Force, specifically the Army, and I’ve really been able to see it evolve,” Sergeant Nicholas said.
“There were not many women when I first joined. And now there is an array of roles and career opportunities now that women can do, which is fantastic to see.”
The open day gave visitors a clear view of life at ADFA, leaving many visitors inspired and informed about their future possibilities.
