Yours and Owls held their 10th Birthday Party Festival at the University of Wollongong over the weekend, bringing in music lovers to celebrate the milestone.

The event’s lineup was full of Aussie musicians such as Peking Duk and Alice Ivy, and included UOW alumni such as electronica duo Hellcat Speedracer.

A representative of Hellcat Speedracer said it was an exciting and nostalgic show for them.

“We were super lucky to be invited to celebrate Yours and Owls’ 10th birthday, having had our first ever festival show at the same event a few years back, it was a no brainer,” Mr Critchley said.

“It’s pretty cool knowing we used to walk around the UOW ground heading to lectures. Now we are playing at a festival there on the big stage”.

Yours and Owls started as a small music venue in Wollongong aiming to bring live music to the town 5 nights a week. In the last 10 years, the small business has turned into an events company putting on shows all over New South Wales. Yours and Owls has held their annual Music Festival for the past 10 years, with The University of Wollongong making its debut as the host in 2023.

UOW student and festival attendee Emily Summerville said the locality of the event held appeal.

“It’s so great to have fun events like this so close to home! It’s easier to get to and from the festival and it feels safer knowing so many of the people around you,” Miss Summerville said.

The lineup was a major positive for festival goers, Miss Summerville said.

“It’s always great to see lineups featuring so many Australian artists. Everyone really got behind their fellow Aussies” Miss Summerville said.

Yours and Owls is already planning their festival for 2025, with the line up to be announced soon.
