The University of Wollongong welcomes international students to the campus with a program providing free sports throughout the semester.

UOW pulse team member Gerard Jacobma says his passion for sports, particularly soccer, is the main reason he has got involved with the free sports program.

“When I came to UOW, I was welcomed by the Pulse team to lead the soccer, and I think soccer is in my blood,” Mr Jacomba said.

He also said it is important for all international students to feel connected to one another through the program.

“Being an international student and seeing a lot of international students coming in, I was very excited about it to meet new people, and I felt really happy to welcome them all and have fun during their uni time,” Mr Jacomba said.

Former participant and current organiser of the program Tushan Nagrudge says the free sports program is a way to stay fit and make friends.

“It has been one and a half years at the campus since I came here and I’ve been welcomed with open hands,” Mr Nagrudge said.

“Everybody is welcome, and it is all about refreshing your mind when you are playing the game.”

The UOW Pulse free sports program will run until the end of this semester, marking two years since its inception.
