The University of Wollongong Tennis Club is giving members the chance to improve their skills on a social and competitive level.

UOW Tennis Club player Ben Petrevski said the club has been playing a significant role in enhancing not only his skills but the social element of tennis.

“Personally, tennis is a good way not only to burn a few calories but also to get outside and see my mates, so to me it is something very casual but still special to me,” Mr Petrevski said.

“Through the club I’ve meet a new group of people who share similar thoughts to me, and I have become very good friends with a few of those people.”

The club has also been encouraging all types of players, both experienced and inexperienced, to improve their skill range but mainly to play the sport for an extended session, which some members may have struggled with previously.

“Students are playing much more often which has helped to increase their skills,” Mr Petrevski said.

UOW Tennis Club founder and organiser Koe Bowmaker said the tennis sessions has positively impacted his performance on a competitive level, specifically in the Intervarsity Tennis Competition.

“I did pretty well I personally was injured for most of the competition but I did okay and I won a few matches,” Mr Boemaker said.

Mr Petrevski said the club is efficient in supporting student’s tennis abilities in conjunction with the social aspect of the game.

“The club is a great place to learn tennis or to get in a bit of exercise, or to meet people, if that’s what your looking for,” Mr Petrevski said.

UOW Tennis Club will be continuing their sessions for the rest of the session.
