Most university students need casual or part-time work to financially support themselves while they study. With classes through the week, many them work in hospitality jobs at night and on weekends and they rely on their penalty rates to make up for their limited shifts.
But pressure by business on the Abbott Government to axe penalty rates has resurfaced since the election. The prime minister has promised a review by the Productivity Commission in to fair work laws, which could result in pay cuts affecting students nationwide. Sydney Pead reports.
