Culburra Beach Festival shines as road upgrades promise safer travels

Culburra Beach Festival welcomed families who were eager to enjoy the beauty and sounds of the South Coast.

Since 2011, the Beach Festival has been a staple in Culburra featuring an array of food, clothing and community markets offering a variety of locally sourced products.

Kicking off the weekend, the Culburra Beach Festival included free entertainment, including music and talent shows, held on Saturday.

Events like this need community involvement and volunteer support. Resident and volunteer, Monica Willis, was among the weekend’s volunteers.

“I think Culburra is known for its coastal location; we have beach, surf, river and bay all in one. It’s a small coastal town with that classic Australian coast surrounded by bush,” Willis said.

“We have all this amazing nature and beauty, but we have a very small community and are very vibrant and we are known for art and music as well,” she said.

Drawing in locals and visitors, Culburra Beach is renowned for its long waves and pristine waters. Offering a variety of great spots for intermediate to advanced surfers and swimmers.

The high number of tourists and Sydneysiders to Culburra Beach has increased road use. This influx is expected to increase as local real estate agents report city buyers looking for new homes.

To ensure safety for all, the Australian Government has invested $40 million into upgrading six regional road locations within the Shoalhaven area.

The project aims to improve road safety near Culburra Beach and nearby communities. The upgrade will include rehabilitation, resurfacing, widening and intersections, all of which will benefit travellers and residents.

“Nothing is more important than getting people home safe at the end of each and every trip, whether it’s a quick duck down to the shops, the regular school run, or a longer haul,” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

“That’s why we are investing $40 million to improve safety along six crucial roads and intersections in the Shoalhaven region, which will make an incredible difference for motorists in the region,” he said.

The Shoalhaven community has been able to celebrate and enjoy the entertainment featured at Culburra, and with these road improvements, the region is set to become an even safer and more attractive destination for visitors.

To keep up to date with local traffic alerts and events, check out the Shoalhaven City Council for updates on road repairs.

Video: Monica Willis and Karyn Knowles are both dedicated volunteers at the Culburra Beach Festival, showcasing the vibrant beauty and community spirit of the local area. With their passion for community engagement, Monica and Karyn play a vital role in making the festival memorable for the community and travellers, by enhancing Culburra’s reputation as a must-visit destination for beach lovers and culture enthusiasts alike. Culburra is known for its stunning sandy shores and coastal waves, as the small community attracts tourists year-round, Culburra Beach is also able to provide tourists with a perfect combination of relaxation and fun. From 2011, the festival has been the highlight of the town, with the local art, music and delicious cuisine drawing in visitors that are eager to experience the area’s natural beauty and charm.
